General Overview

Welcome to UJ Connect. By accessing and using our platform, you agree to comply with the following Terms and Conditions. Please read them carefully. If you do not agree, you may not use the platform.

1. Introduction

“UJ Connect” is the trading name of the UJ Connect group of companies. The UJ Connect group (“UJ Connect” or “we”) operates an e-commerce platform consisting of a website and mobile application (“Marketplace”), along with supporting IT logistics and payment infrastructure for the sale and purchase of consumer products and services (“Products”). Additional services include an AI Assistant, E-Library, Forums, Maps, and School Updates (collectively, the “Platform”). These Terms govern your use of UJ Connect and its services.

1.1 Eligibility

To use UJ Connect, you must:

    • Be at least 18 years old, or have parental consent if you are a minor.
    • Agree to comply with local, state, national, and international laws.
    • keep your password confidential; Notify us in writing immediately (using our contact details) if you become aware of any disclosure of your password.
    • be responsible for any activity on our Platform arising out of any failure to keep your password confidential and that you may be held liable for any losses arising out of such a failure.
    • Your account shall be used exclusively by you and you shall not transfer your account to any third party. If you authorize any third party to manage your account on your behalf this shall be at your own risk.
    • We may suspend or cancel your account and/or edit your account details at any time in our sole discretion and without notice or explanation providing that if we cancel any products or services you have paid for but not received and you have not breached these general terms and conditions we will refund you in respect of the same.
  • You may cancel your account on our platform by contacting us

1.2 Modifications

We reserve the right to update or modify these Terms at any time without notice. Your continued use of UJ Connect after such changes means you accept the revised Terms.

2. Services Provided

2.1 Marketplace

UJ Connect provides a digital marketplace where users can buy and sell goods and services. UJ Connect is not responsible for transactions between users (unless UJ Connect is indicated as the seller). Any disputes must be resolved between the buyer and the seller.

2.1.1 Terms & Conditions of Sale

You acknowledge and agree that:

  • 2.1.2. the marketplace provides an online location for sellers to sell and buyers to purchase products.
  • 2.1.3. we shall accept binding sales on behalf of sellers but (unless UJ Connect is indicated as the seller) UJ Connect is not a party to the transaction between the seller and the buyer.
  • 2.1.4. a contract for the sale and purchase of a product or products will come into force between the buyer and seller and accordingly you commit to buying or selling the relevant product or products upon the buyer’s confirmation of purchase via the marketplace.

Subject to these general terms, the seller’s terms govern the sale contract between buyer and seller. However, the following will also apply:

  • 2.1.5. The product price will be as listed.
  • 2.1.6. The price must include all taxes and comply with current laws.
  • 2.1.7. Additional charges (delivery, packaging, handling, etc.) will only apply if clearly stated in the product listing. Digital products may be delivered electronically.
  • 2.1.8. Products must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, and match their description.
  • 2.1.9. For physical products, the seller guarantees ownership and rights to sell, with no third-party claims. For digital products, the seller guarantees the right to supply them.

2.1.2 Returns and Refunds

  • 2.1.2.1 Product returns and acceptance by sellers are managed according to our marketplace’s returns policy, which may be updated from time to time. Return acceptance is at our discretion and subject to local laws.
  • 2.1.2.2 Refunds for returned products follow our marketplace’s refund policy, also subject to updates. Refunds are issued at our discretion, in line with local laws, and may include:
      • The product price;
      • Local or international shipping fees (as detailed in the refund policy);
      • Refunds may be issued as store credits, vouchers, bank transfers, or other methods we determine.
  • Returned products shall be accepted and refunds issued by UJ Connect acting for and on behalf of the seller. Notwithstanding paragraphs 2.1.2.1 and 2.1.2.2 above in respect of digital products or services and fresh food UJ Connect shall issue refunds in respect of failures in delivery only. Refunds of payment for such products for any other reasons shall be subject to the seller’s terms and conditions of sale.
  • Changes to our returns page or refunds page shall be effective in respect of all purchases made from the date of publication of the change on our website.

2.1.3 Payments

You must make payments due under these general terms and conditions in accordance with the Payments Information and Guidelines on the marketplace.

2.1.4 Coupons

Coupons may be earned and managed in accordance with the UJ Connect’s Coupons Terms and Conditions as may be amended from time to time. UJ Connect reserves the right to cancel or withdraw UJ Connect Coupons for any reason in its discretion including if we suspect fraud or foul play. 2.1.5 Promotions

Promotions and competitions run by UJ Connect and/or other promoters shall be managed in accordance with the Promotions Terms and Conditions. You can view each Promotion’s terms and conditions on our website

2.2 AI Assistant

Our AI Assistant is designed to assist with queries related to the platform and general information. UJ Connect does not guarantee the accuracy or reliability of information provided by the AI.

2.3 E-Library

Users have access to a wide range of academic resources through our E-Library for non-commercial purposes. Content may be subject to third-party licenses, and UJ Connect is not responsible for the accuracy or updates of such content. See section 4.3 for detailed terms.

2.4 Forums

The Forums section allows users to engage in discussions on various topics. Users are solely responsible for the content they post. Hate speech, harassment, or any offensive behavior is strictly prohibited.

2.5 Maps

The Maps feature offers geographical information related to the school campus and surrounding areas. UJ Connect does not guarantee real-time accuracy and users should verify information independently.

2.6 School Updates

The School Updates feature provides important announcements and notifications related to the school. While we strive to keep the information up-to-date, UJ Connect is not liable for any missed or delayed updates.

3. User Responsibilities

3.1 Account Security

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials. UJ Connect is not liable for any unauthorized access or use of your account.

3.2 Content Ownership

3.2.1 – By submitting content on UJ Connect (e.g., Marketplace listings, Forum posts), you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, reproduce, and display such content for the purpose of operating and improving the platform.

3.2.2 – You grant to us the right to sub-license the rights licensed under section 3.2.1

3.2.3 – You grant to us the right to bring an action for infringement of the rights licensed under section 3.2.1

3.2.4 – You hereby waive all your moral rights in your content to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law; and you warrant and represent that all other moral rights in your content have been waived to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.

3.2.5 – Without prejudice to our other rights under these general terms and conditions if you breach our rules on content in any way or if we reasonably suspect that you have breached our rules on content we may delete, unpublish or edit any or all of your content.

3.3 Prohibited Actions

Users may not:

  • Upload viruses, malware, or harmful software.
  • Use the platform for fraudulent or unlawful purposes.
  • Infringe upon the intellectual property of others.
  • Your content must be appropriate civil and tasteful and accord with generally accepted standards of etiquette and behavior on the internet and must not:
      • be offensive obscene indecent pornographic lewd suggestive or sexually explicit;
      • depict violence in an explicit graphic or gratuitous manner; or
      • be blasphemous in breach of racial or religious hatred or discrimination legislation;
      • be deceptive fraudulent threatening abusive harassing anti-social menacing hateful discriminatory or inflammatory;
      • cause annoyance inconvenience or needless anxiety to any person; or
      • constitute spam.
  • You must not interfere with a transaction by;
      • contacting another user to buy or sell an item listed on the marketplace outside of the marketplace; or
      • communicating with a user involved in an active or completed transaction to warn them away from a particular buyer seller or item; or
      • contacting another user with the intent to collect any payments.

If you learn of any unlawful material or activity on our marketplace or any material or activity that breaches these general terms and conditions you may inform us by contacting us.

4. Use of website and mobile applications

4.1. In this section, words “marketplace” and “website” shall be used interchangeably to refer to UJ Connect’s websites and mobile applications. And “materials” shall be used to refer to UJ Connect’s E-Library and News features.

4.2. You may:

      • 4.2.1. view pages from our website in a web browser;
      • 4.2.2. download pages from our website for caching in a web browser;
      • 4.2.3. print pages from our website for your own personal and non-commercial use providing that such printing is not systematic or excessive;
      • 4.2.4. stream audio and video files from our website using the media player on our website; and
      • 4.2.5. use the materials and marketplace services by means of a web browser subject to the other provisions of these general terms and conditions.

4.3. Permitted Use of E-Library: The reading materials available for download on this platform are provided for personal, non-commercial use only. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to download and use the books solely for your own personal, educational, or informational purposes.

4.4. Restrictions on Use of E-Library: You are expressly prohibited from:

    • 4.4.1. using the reading materials or other materials for any commercial purpose, including but not limited to selling, licensing, renting, or otherwise monetizing the content;
    • 4.4.2. reproducing, distributing, publicly displaying, or creating derivative works from the materials without prior written consent from the copyright holder or licensor;
    • 4.4.3. sharing the materials with third parties for commercial gain or any other unauthorized purpose;

4.5. Except as expressly permitted by section 4.2, 4.3 or the other provisions of these general terms and conditions you must not download any material from our website or save any such material to your computer.

4.6. You may only use our materials or website for your own personal and business purposes in respect of personal use or purchasing products on the marketplace.

4.7. Except as expressly permitted by these general terms and conditions you must not edit or otherwise modify any material on our website.

4.8. Unless you own or control the relevant rights in the material you must not:

    • 4.8.1 republish material from our website (including republication on another website);
    • 4.8.2. sell rent or sub-license material from our website;
    • 4.8.3. show any material from our website in public;
    • 4.8.4. exploit material from our website for a commercial purpose; or
    • 4.8.5. redistribute material from our website.

5. Copyright and trademarks

5.1. In this section, word “Services” shall be used  to refer to UJ Connect’s services which include Marketplace, AI Assistant, E-Library, Forums, Maps, and School Updates.

5.2. Subject to the express provisions of these general terms and conditions:

  • 5.2.1. we together with our licensors own and control all the copyright and other intellectual property rights in our website and the Services on our website; and
  • 5.2.2. all the copyright and other intellectual property rights in our website and the Services on our website are reserved.
  • 5.2.3. All Services available on this platform are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. The copyright holders retain all rights, title, and interest in and to the Services, except for the limited license granted to you for non-commercial use.

5.3. UJ Connect’s logos and our other registered and unregistered trademarks are trademarks belonging to us; we give no permission for the use of these trademarks and such use may constitute an infringement of our rights.

5.4. The third party registered and unregistered trademarks or service marks on our website are the property of their respective owners and we do not endorse and are not affiliated with any of the holders of any such rights and as such we cannot grant any license to exercise such rights.

6.Data privacy & Privacy Policy

6.1. Buyers agree to processing of their personal data in accordance with the terms of UJ Connect’s Privacy and Cookie Notice.

6.2. UJ Connect shall process all personal data obtained through the marketplace and related services in accordance with the terms of our Cookie Notice and Privacy Policy.

6.3. Your privacy is important to us. Our Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, and protect your personal data. By using UJ Connect, you agree to the terms of our Privacy Policy.

7. Limitation of Liability

7.1. UJ Connect is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We are not responsible for:

  • 7.1.2 Errors, inaccuracies, or omissions in the content.
  • 7.1.3 Damages arising from the use or inability to use the platform.
  • 7.1.4 Transactions between users on UJ Connect.
  • 7.1.5 Misuse of the platform, downloaded materials or products by users.

7.2. In respect of the services offered to you free of charge we will not be liable to you for any loss or damage of any nature whatsoever.

7.3. Our aggregate liability to you in respect of any contract to provide services to you under these general terms and conditions shall not exceed the total amount paid and payable to us under the contract. Each separate transaction on the marketplace shall constitute a separate contract for the purpose of this section 7.

7.4. Notwithstanding section 7.3 above we will not be liable to you for any loss or damage of any nature including in respect of:

      • 7.4.1. any losses occasioned by any interruption or dysfunction to the website;
      • 7.4.2. any losses arising out of any event or events beyond our reasonable control;
      • 7.4.3. any business losses including (without limitation) loss of or damage to profits income revenue use production anticipated savings business contracts commercial opportunities or goodwill;
      • 7.4.4. any loss or corruption of any data database or software; or
      • 7.4.5. any special indirect or consequential loss or damage.

7.5. We accept that we have an interest in limiting the personal liability of our officers and employees and having regard to that interest you acknowledge that we are a limited liability entity; you agree that you will not bring any claim personally against our officers or employees in respect of any losses you suffer in connection with the marketplace or these general terms and conditions (this will not limit or exclude the liability of the limited liability entity itself for the acts and omissions of our officers and employees).

7.7. Our website, marketplace or platform includes hyperlinks to other websites owned and operated by third parties; such hyperlinks are not recommendations. We have no control over third party websites and their contents and we accept no responsibility for them or for any loss or damage that may arise from your use of them.

8. Indemnification

You hereby indemnify us and undertake to keep us indemnified against:

  • any and all losses damages costs liabilities and expenses (including without limitation legal expenses and any amounts paid by us to any third party in settlement of a claim or dispute) incurred or suffered by us and arising directly or indirectly out of your use of our marketplace or any breach by you of any provision of these general terms and conditions or the UJ Connect codes policies or guidelines; and
  • any VAT liability or other tax liability that we may incur in relation to any sale supply or purchase made through our marketplace where that liability arises out of your failure to pay withhold declare or register to pay any VAT or other tax properly due in any jurisdiction.

9. Breaches of these general terms and conditions

9.1. If we permit the registration of an account on UJ Connect it will remain open indefinitely subject to these general terms and conditions.

9.2. If you breach these general terms and conditions or if we reasonably suspect that you have breached these general terms and conditions or any UJ Connect codes policies or guidelines in any way we may:

    • 9.2.1. temporarily suspend your access to our marketplace, products and platform;
    • 9.2.2. permanently prohibit you from accessing our marketplace, products and platform;
    • 9.2.3. block computers using your IP address from accessing our marketplace, products and platform;
    • 9.2.4. contact any or all of your internet service providers and request that they block your access to our marketplace, products and platform;
    • 9.2.5. suspend or delete your account on our marketplace, products and platform; and/or
    • 9.2.6. commence legal action against you whether for breach of contract or otherwise.

10. Data privacy

Users agree to processing of their personal data in accordance with the terms of UJ Connect’s Privacy and Cookie Notice.

UJ Connect shall process all personal data obtained through the marketplace and related services in accordance with the terms of our Privacy and Cookie Notice and Privacy Policy.

Sellers shall be directly responsible to buyers for any misuse of their personal data and UJ Connect shall bear no liability to buyers in respect of any misuse by sellers of their personal data.

11. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to UJ Connect at any time, with or without cause, and without prior notice. Upon termination, all licenses granted to you under these Terms will immediately cease.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Nigeria, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from the use of UJ Connect will be resolved in the courts of Jos/Nigeria.

You may contact our sellers for after-sales queries including any disputes by requesting their contact details from UJ Connect in accordance with the DISPUTE RESOLUTION POLICY pursuant to which UJ Connect shall be obliged to ensure that the seller is clearly identifiable.

You consent to receive notices electronically from us. We may provide all communications and information related to your use of UJ Connect in electronic format either by posting to our website or application or by email to the email address on your account. All such communications will be deemed to be notices in writing and received by and properly given to you.
